Restylane Erases Fine Lines and Wrinkles

Often, as people age, their confidence levels drop. A constant battle is being raged against fine lines and wrinkles in both women and men alike. Fortunately, there is a highly effective treatment available from dermatologists at Long Island Medical and Cosmetic WrinklesDermatology in Syosset, NY called Restylane.

What is Restylane?
Restylane, a line of a gel formulation of hyaluronic acid, is a revolutionary way to treat fine lines and wrinkles, and even plump lips. Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in the human body, and, when injected into the face or lips, has been proven to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

The Restylane line has several different products, including:

  • Restylane: This is used to add volume and smooth moderate to severe wrinkles and skin folds.
  • Restylane-L: This product is regular Restylane combined with lidocaine, which reduces pain and discomfort associated with the treatment.
  • Restylane Silk: Made up of smaller and smoother particles of hyaluronic acid than the other Restylane products, Restylane Silk is used in the lips and surrounding areas of the mouth to produce a natural looking fullness of the skin and plumping of the lips.
  • Perlane: Using larger particles of hyaluronic acid, Perlane is better for more severe wrinkles that benefit from a deeper injection.
  • Perlane-L: The same as Perlane, but with added lidocaine to make the experience less painful.

How does a typical treatment appointment work?
After an initial consultation with the dermatologist, an appointment is made to inject the Restylane under the skin using an ultra-fine needle. The healthcare provider will prepare the area of the skin to be treated, and then inject the clear gel used in Restylane products underneath the skin. The gel then attracts and bonds with water molecules in the skin tissue to maintain fullness and volume. Results usually last 6 months, with some patients seeing results for even longer.

Post-Treatment
There is little to no downtime associated with treatment though the patient may experience some mild discomfort afterward, including swelling, redness, pain, bruising or tenderness. These side effects typically disappear in less than 7 days for nasolabial folds, or “laugh lines”, and less than two weeks in lip treatments. Patients under 35 are more prone to swelling, and patients over 35 are more prone to bruising, however, both may occur. To promote the fastest healing time, it is recommended to avoid both sun exposure and taking aspirin or ibuprofen. Using cold compresses on the injection sites can also promote fast healing.
