We are all looking for ways to achieve younger, healthier-looking skin. While there are no magic remedies or spells that can give us youthful skin forever, there are some rather wonderful healthy-skin promoting products out there, and some of them could be as close as your pantry.
If you’re a green tea drinker, you may already know the host of benefits it touts. However, did you know that green tea is also great for the skin? Even if you didn’t, it might not come as such a shock. In fact, you can also buy topical green tea products to help fight common skin conditions:
  • Skin sagging
  • Wrinkles and other signs of aging
  • Sun damage
If you’ve been known for your fair share of soaking up summer rays, topical green tea in addition to sunscreen could actually boost sun damage protection. And with its well-documented anti-inflammatory properties, green tea’s polyphenols can help slow down the signs of aging.
So how can you incorporate the benefits of green tea into your healthy-skin lifestyle? It’s as simple as visiting our office. Our dermatology practice near Syosset offers a wonderful skincare line that perhaps you’ve even heard of—Sherer Dermatologics.
What you put into your body is just as important as what you put on your skin. We offer both a green tea cleanser and cream that could enhance and improve your skin’s overall appearance.

Green Tea Fortified Cleanser

A lot of cleansers you find in the aisle of your local pharmacy are chock-full of chemicals. Frighteningly enough, some of these chemicals can even be found in common household cleaners. Who wants to put that on his/her face? That’s why Sherer
Dermatologics is all-natural. This cleanser is also soap-free, so you can enjoy a gentle, deep-cleaning lather without worrying about drying out your skin. With simple ingredients like Vitamins A, C, and E, as well as Green Tea, White Tea and Co-Q10, this product does a great job of fighting wrinkles and damage while also remaining gentle on sensitive skin.

Green Tea Cream

If you’re looking for a rich moisturizer without all the chemicals, then turn to Sherer Dermatologic’s cream. Its high concentration of green tea polyphenols makes it easy to combat and ward away signs of aging. These polyphenols combined with caffeine will keep redness and puffiness at bay, while the tannins in caffeine also offer a skin-tightening effect. Plus, the cream is teeming with antioxidants, which as we all know, help repair damage to your body’s tissue by combating free radicals.
If you’re looking for a dermatologist in Syosset, then give us a call. We have a skin care product to fit your needs, as well as a variety of treatments and procedures to get your skin looking as great as you feel.
Are you in love with Sherer Dermatologics? What changes have you noticed in your skin since using these products? We would love to know how this skincare line has helped your skin!

skin cancerSkin cancer is a term that triggers much anxiety. To put your mind at ease, Long Island Medical and Cosmetic Dermatology wants to let you know the best methods to reduce the risks and complications of skin cancer.  It affects one in five Americans and is the most common form of cancer in the United States. That’s why our Huntington and Hicksville patients are encouraged to have regular skin examinations by a trained dermatologist at our Huntington dermatology or Hicksville dermatology office.
The primary step to protecting the skin is to limit UV ray exposure. Here are some strategies to help you block the harmful rays, especially when the sun is beating down hard.
  • Seek shade if possible
  • Try to avoid the sun during its strongest hours, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
  • Wear clothing that covers sensitive skin
  • Apply SPF 30 to the arms, legs, chest, back, feet, neck and face
  • Reapply sunscreen every two hours
  • Avoid tanning beds
If you are regularly outside in the sun, you need to be more vigilant in regard to your skin. Go see a dermatologist if there is a spot on the skin that lasts for two weeks or longer. You need to note if that spot has changed shape or color, or if it’s bleeding or itching. A dermatologist is able to make a detailed inspection of the skin and will carefully examine the growths, moles, and dry patches. If something is found that resembles skin cancer, the growth may be removed and will be sent to a lab for a biopsy. If skin cancer is present, different options are available including Mohs surgery.

Mohs Surgery

Mohs surgery is an outpatient procedure and is done by a dermatologist specialist. It is a precise surgical technique that removes layers of the skin until cancer-free tissue is obtained. Mohs surgery is typically used to treat skin cancers that:
  • Have a high risk of recurrence
  • Are located in sensitive skin areas where healthy tissue is very important, such as, the hands, feet, eyes, ears, nose, hairline, and mouth.
  • Have hard-to-define borders
  • Are large or aggressive
One of the biggest advantages of this surgery is you know your results right away. You usually will not leave the appointment until all the skin cancer has been removed. Follow up visits are recommended with skin exams at least once or twice a year.
